What is Next Wave? Building on King’s legacy…
Next Wave is a grassroots campaign and action summit to inform, engage, and empower young professionals and students to be social entrepreneurs and political leaders in their communities.
Did you know?
April 4, 2008 marks the 40th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination and the continuation of his legacy for human rights in America.

Why the next wave? A call to our generation…
Our generation represents that next wave of change in this country. We have several recent examples in our lifetime that call us to pick up the torch for human rights locally and globally: post-Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Jena 6, 47+ million of uninsured Americans, children left behind in our education, American farmers movement, Darfur’s genocide, Olympics in China, returning of US soldiers from Iraq, the boom of the creative economy, and the significance of the 2008 Presidential election.
Our nation’s struggle calls us to lead the next wave of change in a quest for a just, healthy America for all. Therefore, we wish to continue the work of Dr. King and so many leaders during his time to ensure that the torch isn’t dropped on equity in humanity in America.
Our global neighbors have long compared and contrasted America’s stance on human rights. How does human rights in America compare to the rest of the world? How does human rights fit into the creative economy initiatives in U.S. major cities? Will rural America be left behind? Will the emerging ethnically diverse America lead the next wave?
